Zylos App Lock support

About Zylos App Lock

Zylos App Lock locks the apps you choose behind a PIN, pattern or your fingerprint/face. It works entirely on your phone. An optional Zylos account backs up only your theme and language settings; your PIN, locked apps and history never leave the phone.

What you can do

Android only. iOS does not let one app lock others; the iPhone build only shows an explanation and is not offered on the App Store.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. Every feature of the app works without an account. A Zylos account is optional and only adds a cloud backup, so you can restore your data on a new phone.

  • Open Settings → Account and sign in with Google, create an account with email and password, or continue as a guest.
  • One Zylos account works across all Zylos apps; each keeps its own backup.
What is backed up, and how do I restore it?

While you are signed in, the app backs up: appearance settings only: theme, colour mood, language and haptics.

  • Never backed up: your PIN or pattern, biometric setup, locked apps, schedules, the activity history and intruder photos (they stay in the lock's private storage); the onboarding state and ad timing.
  • Backups run automatically when something changed (at most every 10 minutes while the app is open, and when it goes to the background).
  • To restore, install the app on the new phone and sign in with the same account in Settings → Account; the app offers to restore the saved data. A guest account can only be restored on the phone that created it, so link it to Google first if you plan to switch phones.
How do I delete my account and data?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your profile and every Zylos backup at once.

  • Without the app: go to apps.zylostechsolutions.com/delete-account, sign in with the same account and confirm.
  • Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app (or use Android Settings → Apps → Zylos App Lock → Storage → Clear storage).
  • Signing out is not deleting: your backup stays for the next time you sign in.
How do I turn notifications and quick actions on or off?

Occasional announcements (new features, tips) are sent to everyone with the app — never targeted at you personally. On Android 13 and later the app asks for notification permission once, from your third launch, and not again if you say no.

  • Quick actions: a silent notification with shortcuts into the app. Turn it on or off in the app's Settings → Quick actions in notifications.
  • Tips and reminders: occasional local tips about features you haven't tried. Turn them off in Settings → Tips and reminders.
  • To stop all notifications, turn them off for Zylos App Lock in your phone's Settings → Apps → Notifications.
Why do I see ads?

The app is free, and ads from Google AdMob pay for it. A banner appears on the Apps, Schedules, Activity and Settings tabs, and a native ad (labelled "Ad") may appear inside a long Activity list (never first). A full-screen ad may appear occasionally when you open Schedules, and at most once right after setup (at most one per two actions, at least a minute apart, never in the first minute). There are no ads when the app starts. Ads never appear on, or behind, the lock screen or the unlock prompt, and never on PIN/pattern setup, permission screens, lock themes, uninstall protection, onboarding or the schedule editor.

  • Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (maximum ad content rating “PG”).
How do I change my ad consent or personalisation?

Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent form appears before any ad loads.

  • To change your choice later: Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices (shown where Google says privacy options are required).
  • You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads, and manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
Which permissions does the app use, and why?

Usage access (special access, you grant it in Settings) — Seeing which app is in front so the lock screen appears over locked apps. Only the foreground app's name is read, on the phone.

  • Display over other apps — Showing the lock screen on top of the app you're opening.
  • Foreground service — Keeps protection running while it's on, with a visible “App Lock is on” notification.
  • Notifications (Android 13+) — The ongoing notification that keeps protection running. Also occasional announcements from us, asked for at most once and never before your third launch.
  • Run at startup — Restarting protection after the phone restarts.
  • Biometrics — Optional fingerprint/face unlock.
  • Camera — Only for the optional intruder photo (front camera after wrong attempts). Not used unless you turn it on.
  • Uninstall protection (optional) — Makes uninstalling the app require turning protection off with your PIN. Uses no device-admin policies (it cannot wipe, lock or watch the phone).
  • Network access — Loads ads from Google AdMob. If you sign in, it also carries your backup.
  • Advertising ID / Android ad services — added by Google's ads SDK; controlled by your consent and your phone's ad settings.
  • You can change any permission in your phone's settings; the app keeps working without the optional ones. The full list, with technical names, is in the privacy policy.
What information do you collect?

The list of apps you lock, your schedules, history and optional intruder photos stay only on your phone.

  • Your PIN or pattern is stored only as a salted, one-way hash.
  • Usage access is used only to see which app is in front, so the lock screen can appear. It is compared with your list on the phone and never stored or sent.
  • No accessibility service. Your PIN, locked apps, schedules and intruder photos are never uploaded, not even to your Zylos account.
  • The app shows ads from Google AdMob on its own screens (never on the lock screen), under Google's policies and consent form where required.
  • Details: privacy policy.
