About Zylos File Reader & Manager
Zylos File Reader & Manager opens and organises documents (PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, text, images, video, ZIP) and, on Android, browses the phone's storage and helps recover deleted or hidden files. All of this happens on your device.
What you can do
- PDF with a fast native renderer that remembers your page.
- Word (DOCX): text and basic formatting.
- Excel (XLSX) and CSV in a table view (first 2,000 rows).
- Text, code, Markdown and JSON, even large logs (read in chunks).
- Images with pinch-to-zoom; video and audio in the system player.
- ZIP: extract into your library.
- PowerPoint, older Office files (DOC, XLS, PPT) and RTF open with another app on your phone.
- Library with folders, search, sort, list or grid.
- Add files from the file picker or photos (system photo picker).
- Rename, move, copy, share, favorite, save to Photos, details, delete.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature of the app works without an account. A Zylos account is optional and only adds a cloud backup, so you can restore your data on a new phone.
- Open Settings → Account and sign in with Google, create an account with email and password, or continue as a guest.
- One Zylos account works across all Zylos apps; each keeps its own backup.
What is backed up, and how do I restore it?
While you are signed in, the app backs up: app and reader settings (theme, colour mood, language, view and sort, app-lock switch, reader night mode and text size, haptics).
- Never backed up: files, file names, recents and the library; launch and review counters, ad timing.
- Backups run automatically when something changed (at most every 10 minutes while the app is open, and when it goes to the background).
- To restore, install the app on the new phone and sign in with the same account in Settings → Account; the app offers to restore the saved data. A guest account can only be restored on the phone that created it, so link it to Google first if you plan to switch phones.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your profile and every Zylos backup at once.
- Without the app: go to apps.zylostechsolutions.com/delete-account, sign in with the same account and confirm.
- Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app (or use Android Settings → Apps → Zylos File Reader & Manager → Storage → Clear storage).
- Signing out is not deleting: your backup stays for the next time you sign in.
How do I turn notifications and quick actions on or off?
Occasional announcements (new features, tips) are sent to everyone with the app — never targeted at you personally. On Android 13 and later the app asks for notification permission once, from your third launch, and not again if you say no.
- Quick actions: a silent notification with shortcuts into the app. Turn it on or off in the app's Settings → Quick actions in notifications.
- Tips and reminders: occasional local tips about features you haven't tried. Turn them off in Settings → Tips and reminders.
- To stop all notifications, turn them off for Zylos File Reader & Manager in your phone's Settings → Apps → Notifications.
Why do I see ads?
The app is free, and ads from Google AdMob pay for it. Banners appear at the bottom of Home, file lists, Recent files, Storage, Recover, search and Settings; native ads (labelled "Ad") below the storage cleanup summary and between recovery results. A full-screen ad may appear occasionally when you move forward to another screen, close a document with Close, or leave a cleanup or recovery summary (at most one per two actions, never in the first minute), and at most once per 4 hours when the app starts (never the first time). No ads while a document is open, during a scan or file operation, between a scan and its results, or on permission screens, and a file opened from another app opens without an ad.
- Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (maximum ad content rating “PG”).
How do I change my ad consent or personalisation?
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent form appears before any ad loads.
- To change your choice later: Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices (shown where Google says privacy options are required).
- You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads, and manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
Which permissions does the app use, and why?
All files access (Android 11+) — Storage tab: browse and manage all files and folders on internal storage and SD cards (copy, move, rename, recycle bin, search). You grant it in Android settings; the app explains why first. Without it the Storage tab asks for access and the library still works.
- Photos, videos and music — Storage categories and the Recover tab (Android's trash, hidden and deleted media). With “Select photos” the app only sees the items you picked.
- Storage (older Android) — The same features on older Android versions, and “Save to Photos”.
- Biometrics — The optional app lock (fingerprint/face via the system prompt).
- Notifications (Android 13+, optional) — Occasional announcements from us and tips about features you haven't tried yet. Asked once, never before your third launch; the app works the same without it, and tips can also be turned off in the app's Settings.
- Network access — Loads ads from Google AdMob. If you sign in, it also carries your backup.
- Advertising ID / Android ad services — added by Google's ads SDK; controlled by your consent and your phone's ad settings.
- You can change any permission in your phone's settings; the app keeps working without the optional ones. The full list, with technical names, is in the privacy policy.
What information do you collect?
Your files are opened, shown and organised only on your device. No file, file name or folder content is ever uploaded.
- On Android, All files access (if you grant it) lets the Storage tab browse, copy, move and delete files you choose; media access lets the Recover tab find deleted and hidden photos, videos and audio.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects device and ad-interaction data under Google's policies, with Google's consent form where required.
- Uninstalling deletes the app's library and settings. Files you moved to the Zylos recycle bin or recovered into public folders stay on your storage until you delete them.
