About Zylos Google TV Remote
Zylos Google TV Remote controls Google TV and Android TV devices from your Android phone over your Wi-Fi, using the Android TV Remote protocol. It is not affiliated with Google LLC.
What you can do
- TVs on the same Wi-Fi are found automatically, or add one by IP address. A same-Wi-Fi checklist helps when nothing shows up.
- Pair once: the TV shows a 6-character code; type it in the app. The TV then trusts this phone.
- Check your TV: one harmless test key confirms the phone controls the right TV.
- D-pad, touchpad (swipe to move, tap for OK) or compact layout — switch any time.
- OK, Back, Home, search, and a media screen with big play/pause, rewind and forward.
- Power and volume appear only when your TV reports that it controls them.
- Saved TVs: switch in one tap, give each TV your own name, forget the ones you don't use.
- Reconnects to your last TV when the app opens.
- Type into the TV's text fields from your phone.
- Open YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify or YouTube Music on the TV if installed. (The protocol can't list your TV's apps, so the app doesn't pretend to.)
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature of the app works without an account. A Zylos account is optional and only adds a cloud backup, so you can restore your data on a new phone.
- Open Settings → Account and sign in with Google, create an account with email and password, or continue as a guest.
- One Zylos account works across all Zylos apps; each keeps its own backup.
What is backed up, and how do I restore it?
While you are signed in, the app backs up: app settings (theme, colour mood, language, haptics).
- Never backed up: saved TVs (names, models, IP addresses), pairing certificates and keys, and the remote layout; what you type on the TV keyboard; launch and review counters, ad timing.
- Backups run automatically when something changed (at most every 10 minutes while the app is open, and when it goes to the background).
- To restore, install the app on the new phone and sign in with the same account in Settings → Account; the app offers to restore the saved data. A guest account can only be restored on the phone that created it, so link it to Google first if you plan to switch phones.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your profile and every Zylos backup at once.
- Without the app: go to apps.zylostechsolutions.com/delete-account, sign in with the same account and confirm.
- Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app (or use Android Settings → Apps → Zylos Google TV Remote → Storage → Clear storage).
- Signing out is not deleting: your backup stays for the next time you sign in.
How do I turn notifications and quick actions on or off?
Occasional announcements (new features, tips) are sent to everyone with the app — never targeted at you personally. On Android 13 and later the app asks for notification permission once, from your third launch, and not again if you say no.
- Quick actions: a silent notification with shortcuts into the app. Turn it on or off in the app's Settings → Quick actions in notifications.
- Tips and reminders: occasional local tips about features you haven't tried. Turn them off in Settings → Tips and reminders.
- To stop all notifications, turn them off for Zylos Google TV Remote in your phone's Settings → Apps → Notifications.
Why do I see ads?
The app is free, and ads from Google AdMob pay for it. Banners appear on the TV list, Saved TVs, the help screens and Settings, and below the D-pad remote as a separate footer (not in touchpad layout or while the keyboard is open). A native ad (labelled "Ad") may appear on the TV list after your TVs and in troubleshooting, never as the first item. A full-screen ad may appear occasionally when you open Settings or switch to another TV, once after your first TV setup, and at most once per 4 hours when the app starts (never the first time, and never when it reconnects straight into the remote). No ads on the pairing code, the TV check, the keyboard or media controls, and no full-screen ads while pairing, connecting or using the remote.
- Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (maximum ad content rating “PG”).
How do I change my ad consent or personalisation?
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent form appears before any ad loads.
- To change your choice later: Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices (shown where Google says privacy options are required).
- You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads, and manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
Which permissions does the app use, and why?
Wi-Fi information and multicast — Discovering TVs on your Wi-Fi (mDNS).
- Notifications (Android 13+, optional) — Occasional announcements from us and tips about features you haven't tried yet. Asked once, never before your third launch; the app works the same without it, and tips can also be turned off in the app's Settings.
- Network access — Loads ads from Google AdMob and to talk to your TV on your Wi-Fi. If you sign in, it also carries your backup.
- Advertising ID / Android ad services — added by Google's ads SDK; controlled by your consent and your phone's ad settings.
- You can change any permission in your phone's settings; the app keeps working without the optional ones. The full list, with technical names, is in the privacy policy.
What information do you collect?
The app talks directly to your TV over your Wi-Fi, encrypted with TLS. Your TVs, pairing keys and what you type are never uploaded.
- Saved TVs (name, IP address, your own name for a TV), the pairing certificate and settings stay on your phone.
- Text you type is sent only to your TV.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects device and ad-interaction data under Google's policies, with Google's consent form where required.
- Details: privacy policy.
