About Zylos Roku TV Remote

Zylos Roku TV Remote controls Roku TVs, streaming sticks, boxes and soundbars from your phone over your Wi-Fi, using Roku's documented External Control Protocol. It is not affiliated with Roku, Inc.

What you can do

Available for Android and iOS. On iPhone, automatic discovery needs an Apple multicast entitlement; until it is granted you add a Roku by its IP address.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. Every feature of the app works without an account. A Zylos account is optional and only adds a cloud backup, so you can restore your data on a new phone.

  • Open Settings → Account and sign in with Google, create an account with email and password, or continue as a guest.
  • One Zylos account works across all Zylos apps; each keeps its own backup.
What is backed up, and how do I restore it?

While you are signed in, the app backs up: app settings (theme, colour mood, language, haptics).

  • Never backed up: saved TVs (names, models, IP addresses) and the remote layout; what you type on the TV keyboard; launch and review counters, ad timing.
  • Backups run automatically when something changed (at most every 10 minutes while the app is open, and when it goes to the background).
  • To restore, install the app on the new phone and sign in with the same account in Settings → Account; the app offers to restore the saved data. A guest account can only be restored on the phone that created it, so link it to Google first if you plan to switch phones.
How do I delete my account and data?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your profile and every Zylos backup at once.

  • Without the app: go to apps.zylostechsolutions.com/delete-account, sign in with the same account and confirm.
  • Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app (or use Android Settings → Apps → Zylos Roku TV Remote → Storage → Clear storage).
  • Signing out is not deleting: your backup stays for the next time you sign in.
How do I turn notifications and quick actions on or off?

Occasional announcements (new features, tips) are sent to everyone with the app — never targeted at you personally. On Android 13 and later the app asks for notification permission once, from your third launch, and not again if you say no.

  • Quick actions: a silent notification with shortcuts into the app. Turn it on or off in the app's Settings → Quick actions in notifications.
  • Tips and reminders: occasional local tips about features you haven't tried. Turn them off in Settings → Tips and reminders.
  • To stop all notifications, turn them off for Zylos Roku TV Remote in your phone's Settings → Apps → Notifications.
Why do I see ads?

The app is free, and ads from Google AdMob pay for it. Banners appear on the TV list, the channels grid, Saved TVs, the help screens and Settings, and below the D-pad remote as a separate footer (not in touchpad layout or while the keyboard is open). A native ad (labelled "Ad") may appear on the TV list after your TVs, in the channels grid after the first channels and in troubleshooting, never as the first item. A full-screen ad may appear occasionally when you open Settings or switch to another TV, once after your first setup, and at most once per 4 hours when the app starts (never the first time, and never when it reconnects straight into the remote). No ads on the TV check, the Roku settings helper, the keyboard or media controls, and no full-screen ads while connecting to or using a TV.

  • Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (maximum ad content rating “PG”).
How do I change my ad consent or personalisation?

Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent form appears before any ad loads.

  • To change your choice later: Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices (shown where Google says privacy options are required).
  • You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads, and manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
Which permissions does the app use, and why?

Wi-Fi information and multicast — Discovering Rokus on your Wi-Fi (SSDP).

  • Notifications (Android 13+, optional) — Occasional announcements from us and tips about features you haven't tried yet. Asked once, never before your third launch; the app works the same without it, and tips can also be turned off in the app's Settings.
  • Network access — Loads ads from Google AdMob and to talk to your Roku on your Wi-Fi. If you sign in, it also carries your backup.
  • Advertising ID / Android ad services — added by Google's ads SDK; controlled by your consent and your phone's ad settings.
  • You can change any permission in your phone's settings; the app keeps working without the optional ones. The full list, with technical names, is in the privacy policy.
What information do you collect?

The app talks directly to your Roku over your Wi-Fi. What you type and your saved TVs are never uploaded.

  • Saved TVs (name, model, IP address, your own name for a TV) and settings stay on your phone.
  • Text you type is sent only to your Roku.
  • The app shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects device and ad-interaction data under Google's policies, with Google's consent form where required.
  • Details: privacy policy.
